Romance
"I'm
With Busey" Episode 105
In
arguably the funniest episode so far, Adam enrolls in
"the Busey school of Romance." It opens with
Gary driving Adam to an ultimate fighting contest. Gary
tells Adam: "If we get splattered with blood, that's an
honor," and Adam is a little freaked out. Adam
suggests that Gary teach him about women instead. At
that comment, Gary brings his car to a screeching halt and
tells Adam, "When you want to know something about women,
you've come to the right place."
Gary
enlists the help of pretty friend Kim, who is incredulous that
Gary is teaching Adam about romance. Then Gary yells
gibberish at some crows. Later, Gary reveals that
"romance" is an acronym for "Relying On
Magnificent And Necessary Compatible Energy." Adam
is enlightened.
Gary
arranges a blind date for Adam with a girl named Jamie, who is
aware their date is being filmed for a TV show but seems
ignorant of the specifics. Gary feeds Adam lines through
a wireless earpiece--brilliant stuff like "Every letter
that makes up the word that creates your name builds a garden
of passion in my heart." Strangely enough, Jamie
thinks Adam is a little weird.
After
their meal, Adam takes Jamie mini-golfing, and things are
going as well as one could hope, with Adam's self-effacing
humor working its subtle magic on Jamie. Then Gary
repeatedly interrupts their date and excuses himself with the
inscrutable but timeless exiting line "I gotta go run
some garbage trails." When mini-golfing is done,
Gary serenades the couple with his guitar, and Adam steals an
awkward kiss on the cheek.
I
give two thumbs up to this episode. You can never really
tell whether the girl's reactions are genuine, but who
cares. Gary is in top form, and Adam is charming in his
own comical way. Ladies know what I'm talking about....
